In short: Pontueel has no accounts, sets no cookies, and never sells your data. We collect a small amount of anonymous usage data to understand how the app and website are used, but nothing that identifies you personally.
Who we are
Pontueel is built and run by Giel Cobben, an independent Dutch developer based in Canada. This policy covers the website (pontueel.com, pontueel.nl, pontje.com) and the Pontueel iOS app.

What we collect
On the website
We use our own first-party, anonymous analytics, with no third-party tracking scripts and no advertising networks. For each visit we record:
- Pages you view and a few outbound clicks (for example, the "Download in the App Store" button).
- Campaign tags (
utm_*) when you arrive from a link that carries them. - Your light/dark appearance preference.
- The hostname of the site that referred you (for example,
google.com), never the full address.
We do not set cookies. The only thing stored in your browser is a short-lived
session id in sessionStorage, which expires after 30 minutes of inactivity and is
cleared when you close the tab. To count unique visits without identifying anyone,
our server derives an anonymous, daily-rotating hash; we do not store your raw
IP address, and the hash cannot be linked back to you or to the next day's visits.
In the iOS app
The app records anonymous usage events, for example that the app was opened or that a ferry route was viewed or favorited. There is no account, no login, and no advertising identifier. These events are not tied to your identity.
What we do not collect
We do not collect your name, email address, precise location, or any other personal details. We do not track you across other websites or apps, and we do not use ad networks or third-party trackers.
Third parties
- Apple MapKit powers the maps. When a map loads, the request is handled by Apple under Apple's Privacy Policy.
- Public transit data comes from OVapi and GTFS feeds. These are public timetable and real-time sources and contain no personal data about you.
- Cloudflare hosts the website and app API. As our infrastructure provider it may process standard request metadata (such as IP address) transiently to deliver and secure the service.
Legal basis and your rights
Because our analytics are anonymous and we set no cookies, no consent banner is required, and our processing rests on a legitimate interest in understanding and improving the service. If you have any questions or requests under the GDPR, email support@pontueel.com and we'll help.
Children
Pontueel is a general-audience travel tool and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone.

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
