Every dock and every direction, from Centraal Station to Buiksloterweg, IJplein and NDSM through to Pontsteiger, Azartplein and Zeeburgereiland. The crossings outside the city are covered too: the Hempont to Zaandam, Assendelft to Spaarndam and Velsen-Noord to Velsen-Zuid.

Live departure times and a countdown

Departure times come in real time from GVB's open data via OVapi (NDOV Loket), with a countdown to the next sailing. Tell from your couch whether to leave now or wait, and with Now, +1 hour, +2 hours and Last, see when the last ferry goes.

Your crossing on your Home Screen

On iPhone and iPad you can pin your own crossing to the Home or Lock Screen as a widget, countdown included. You see the next ferry without opening the app.

The timetable, beyond the live window

Real-time data only reaches an hour ahead. Past that, Pontueel shows the timetable: the first and last ferry each day, how often it runs and how long the crossing takes.

No account, no ads, nothing paid. Pontueel is bilingual in Dutch and English, and it is not an official GVB app.

Is the ferry app free?

Yes. Pontueel is free, with no ads and no account. The ferries themselves are free too.

Which phones does the app run on?

Pontueel is in the App Store for iPhone and iPad. The Android version is finished and in Google's final test round. In the meantime the website works on any phone, without installing anything.

Which ferries are in the app?

Every free GVB ferry across the IJ in Amsterdam, plus the crossings outside the city: the Hempont to Zaandam, Assendelft to Spaarndam and Velsen-Noord to Velsen-Zuid.

Does the app work offline?

The timetable is built into the app, so you can read it without a connection. Live departure times and the countdown need internet.

Where do the departure times come from?

From GVB's open data via OVapi (NDOV Loket), the same source as the departure boards on the pier.

Is Pontueel the official GVB app?

No. Pontueel is made by Giel Cobben and is independent of GVB. The departure times do come from GVB's official open data.
